Here are some photos of us finding out information about local animals during our orienteering course.
'What's outside your window?' is our comenius project. Each partner school will explore the 'great outdoors', encouraging pupils to be more active, whilst being involved in intercultural dialogue about their environment and culture. Activities will include such things as describing the view from their window, comparing typical plants and creatures, investigating pollution, sharing traditional myths and legends, orienteering games and gardening .

UK Orienteering
Pupils in year 3 and year 4 enjoyed finding out more about which creatures live in our school grounds. It was great fun doing an orienteering course to discover which creatures could be found in each location on the map. We used an aerial map of the school to help us.
We enjoyed it so much that we had a proper orienteering map done of our school so we hope to do more orienteering in the future.

Orienteering game from Turkey
Our school garden isn't a good place to play this game so we went to the National Park in our town.We were divided into three groups and each group had to find its animal cards.
We read the maps carefully to find the correct place. It was a bit difficult for us as the park was very big

Orienteering games
Orienteering activities in Poland
This is the map of our school ground.
In the classroom we have listed the names of the animals living in the schoolground. After that, we went outside and we had some orienteering activities. Using the map we had to find the correct place and then our task was to solve the animal riddle.
When we discovered the name of the animal, we were looking for the picture of this creature.
Finally, we have found all the animals living near our school. There was a pidgeon, a rabbit, a grasshopper, a magpie, an ant and a hedgehog.
It was a great experience for us. We have learnt how to use a map and we have studied about the animals from our schoolground.
We had a wonderful time!!!!

We enjoyed the creature hunt in the school ground in September 2011. We used a map to find the animals. Here are our animals of the school ground: a hedgehog, a bee, a mole, an ant, a pigeon and a blackbird. The cards of the animals were hidden e.g. under a log or on a tree. We had to read the description of the animals carefully so as to do the animal quiz at the end.
